The Roughneck is a rapid-firing gunship. It has decent armor, able to withstand most T1 anti-air defenses. They excel at destroying vulnerable skirmishers and artillery, and focusing down tougher units. In significant numbers, they can easily threaten T3 units.
Their most common use is for defending your base or protecting your teammates within your air territory.
They are not effective at assaulting bases, due to their low speed. For this purpose, use bombers, or Hornets. It has heavier armor but weaker weapons than its Cortex counterpart, the Wasp. Roughnecks' speed and power gives them some use in naval warfare, as well, but beware true naval AA.
Avoid flak, fighters and heavier SAMs at all costs!
