What it means for your donations:

‍Donations to BAR continue, and they remain structurally separate from the commercial side of the project. Going forward, donations flow into the BAR Community Fund, ring-fenced for community-facing spending: tournament prize pools, community events, volunteer contributor tooling, an infrastructure safety net, and similar work that benefits players and contributors directly.

Donations do not fund development of the commercial Premium Edition. That work is funded by Hooded Horse through the publishing agreement, with a binding internal commitment to reinvest the majority of any revenue back into the project.

What stays the same:

The game's code remains under GPL v2. The free version of BAR continues to be available through this website with full multiplayer feature parity. A safe off-ramp is built into the publishing agreement: if the partnership ever ends for any reason, the free version stays free and the community keeps developing it.

If you want to support BAR's commercial side specifically, the cleanest way is to buy the Premium Edition when it launches on Steam.

Thanks for supporting BAR, however you choose to do that.

How are donations spent

Basic Funding

For the sake of transparency we would like to disclose, BAR Team B.V. currently is registered by IceXuick in the Netherlands.

In alignment with the core values of our project, we want to assure you that all funds received through donations will be allocated to cover running expenses for servers, infrastructure, asset purchases, web hosting, commissioning work required for the project, administrative spending and other/related costs to keep BAR running smoothly.

We now have the proper foundation to ensure the continuity of BAR for many years to come.

Why do we have $9.95? Beause transaction fees are lower below $10, which effectively will just slightly increase the percentage of donations below $10 that we can put into the game.

Privacy: We don't use your data for any other purposes than to make the transaction. We do have to keep the transactions for at least 7 years for proper bookkeeping.
