The battlefield is quiet now.

The wreckage and debris crunch under the weight of my Thug. The remaining scraps of their forces almost look like fragments of a shattered world. My systems idle as the heat fades from my plasma cannons. For a moment, I simply sit there and look at it.

My hand rises to the medallion at my chest.

Half a broken planet. A scatter of stars.

Our family’s memory garden says Pluto’s destruction burned itself into the minds of those leaving Earth. The image followed them into the void. Half a lost world, and beside it the debris that became the first maps of humanity’s path through the stars.

My ancestors traced their journey inside that debris. Each generation added new stars.

I run my thumb along the etched lines.

It is time to add mine.
