Garaskoon
Leris System: Independent Trade Relay Note
Garaskoon started as a mining world, and I swear it never learned how to be anything else. Supposedly it was founded by SymarTec Mining Industries, but between the loss of the Lux Terhal and the Sundering, whatever leadership survived didn’t last long after. The company faded. The mine didn’t, and neither did the people who depended on it.
These days the world is run by the Gartesk, part clan and part pathfinder order. When the major factions cut Tenebrium access and walked away, the foremen didn’t take over. The pathfinders did. They kept the drills turning and gave the workers a reason to stay when the money alone stopped being enough.
I don’t know where their pathfinders studied, because instead of expanding outward like a sane operation, they dig inward. Underground settlements, pressurized caverns, entire cities grown around active shafts and furnaces. Most of the population lives as close to the work as possible. They say it keeps them closer to what matters. It also means visitors don’t stay long unless they are here to trade. Myself included.
You’ll hear their saying everywhere, even offworld: From the sun to the core. It means do it properly. Finish the job. Burn through whatever’s in the way. And they mean it. Heat-based mining arrays, solar-fed cutting beams, cracking tools I have never seen anywhere else. It’s unique stuff, we grabbed a few for trade.
Garaskoon isn’t all bad. If you respect that the mine comes first, they’ll deal with you fairly. I just don’t understand the place, and I don’t think I ever will.
